About PSP custom firmware should i need?

i have a silver psp 2000 and its 6.35. i went here http://www.psp-hacks.com/2011/01/14/psp-… and the site says "but wait its beta". my other psp has "5.50 gen-a(full)" tho. what kind do i need?

I don;t have custom firmware, and i tried to put the .ctf themes on my psp, but it would not work. Do i need custom firmware, or what??? Also, could you instruct me where to put the .ctf files on my memory stick. Thanks
