Are Metal Mouthpieces good for Alto Sax?

i'm saving money up to get my boyfriend one but i'm not sure if he'll get a hard rubber mouthpiece or a metal one. so how much should i save up?

Where (online) can I buy quality...I cannot stress this enough...saxophone supplies, such as reeds, ligatures, mouthpieces, music, etc...for the Eb alto sax? I would prefer a site which accepts PayPal and is not too high on their supplies. Anyone know...
