Can I change how my name appears on my friends chat?

That sums it up. If I simply click on a friend's name in the 'Friends Online' list, will they even know I have done that if I don't try to send a chat message? I ask because I have one friend who appears to be online. However, if I click on his name...

I have recently downloaded Yahoo Messenger and I chat to a friend of mine. When we chat, my real name appears in the instant message chat box so she sees my real name. How do I change it so my nickname appears in the chat box to her instead?

I had received a message (in a chat, I think) saying one of my contacts wanted permission to see me in a chat, or something to that effect. So I allowed it, then my name appeared in a tab. I want to change the way my name appears.

I know you change it in My Contact Details, but there is somewhere else you change it. You see the name when you go to Edit Profile but you can't change it there. A Ladyfriend has her real name on it and as we all know, that's not wise.

When I go to the Contact Details to add a name for that person & hit Save and Close, it keeps telling me, I've already added that contact in my address book, I just want to change the way their name appears when we are IM'ing
