Can I connect dual monitors through DVI and HDMI?

I have seen devices that allow you to do this with DisplayPort (not mini) that cost 200 bucks. I have these two video outputs and wonder if anyone has ever tried, with adapters, connecting two monitors to their laptop in this manner.
