Do you have to go to uni to have a student loan?

ok so im 18 and i want to go to uni but the course is £8000 and i can't afford to pay it up front but because i have only just turned 18 i don't have a good credit rating do u know how i can get a student loan and what do i need to apply for it...

What happens if you go to uni and get a student loan then die after about a year of uni what happens to the loan? Will it disappear or will it have to be payed back by someone else?
