How do I make a picture small?

I switched from my avatar to my picture and chose large picture. It got really big and now I can't find the place in yahoo messenger preferences to make my picture smaller again.

its an oval locket, and about 4-7 cm long how can i make a picture small enough to make it fit, from my printer- no real photo on picnik i tried and made it the smallest it would go but when i printed it, it came out really blurry and full paged :/ can...

i saw someone myspace with just a dp and about me and i want it but i have no idea how to do it ?

i have this 3000+by2000+ image of myself and trying to make an avatar of it. 50by50. how is that possible without getting it too pixelated. i've tried using CS3 but to no avail. i am not good at it.
