How do i connect my VGA cable to my monitor?

The screen is broken but I can see it is at the normal Windows Desktop Menu. I hit Fn and F5 which is the proper key, I believe, and nothing happens. Please help!!!! Thank you!

one end is an svga/VGA split and the other end is a VGA/USB spit so logically I'm guessing it would work, but I want to make sure before I buy it.
