How do you block unwanted e-mails?

Is there any way I can go into my yahoo/ymail email account settings and block emails from a particular sender and specific email address? I don't want to entertain my ex's obnoxious emails at all. I don't even want to see 1 email from him in my Inbox...

I receive numerous emails from irritating advertisers. In spite of writing to them to stop sending me those unwanted emails, they keep coming.
