So I was wanting to make an xbox live account and it tells me to make a new avatar but i want to keep my old avatar, how can i make my old avatar in xbox live

i made my first avatar and didn't really like it so i changed it! but when i chatted with my friends, it was the avatar that i had before! how do i change it to the other avatar?

I don't want to put up a picture but I want to make an avatar but when I click the button that says "add a picture or avatar" or something like that, there's not option to make an avatar. How do I do it?
