How do you make transparent text on gimp?

I'm using gimp, I have the text...but I want to make it look as though it was done with a rubber stamp, like the 'Top Secret' stamps you see on files in some TV shows. I'm guessing it'll be done through the filters but I'm not sure how to go about it...
