How do you program the radio in a Volvo s60?

My step-dad says that if I put an aftermarket radio in, that it will screw up the whole electrical system, because Volvos are made differently than other cars. Apparently I would need to have Volvo reset the car so the electrical system works again,...

I have a 2001 volvo s60 with little to no am radio reception. Does anyone know where I can locate the antenna or find a way to fix my radio so I can get AM reception. I purchased a new head unit, still no luck.
