How do you view a street location?

I'm looking at a location in my neighborhood that looks different from today... it would be nice if I knew Google street view was showing me photos of that location from July 2009, for example.

I've been amazed a few times at how horrible some supposedly lovely/iconic places are.

Seems like the street view would provide a more readily understandable sense of location as well as provide a more human feel to the site.

We are visiting Paris in the summer and I hoping to visit to exact location of André Kertész's photo, 'Stairs Of Montmartre'. From what I can tell looking at Street View on Google Maps and exploring Flickr, there are many steps...

I cannot access Google Street View? When I key in an address, I get 'location' Hotels, etc, but I want to locate streets, etc, can anyone help?

i am wondering when i ask google a map and it shows a street view of the location, everything is visible but is that picture a live one or a recorded one?just curious
