How much will you need for a day in Amsterdam?

My best friend and I (in our 40's) are planning our dream trip to Amsterdam. We will be flying from the US, staying at a medium priced hotel, site seeing, and hitting the coffeeshops frequently. Our main purpose of going is the coffeeshops. Anyway.....
