How to change the picture on messenger?

I am able to change the Avatar on the website but it will not convert over onto the picture posted for my Yahoo Messenger. Do you know how to make the avatar picture change on the Messenger screen?

For the yahoo messenger does the picture have to be an avatar?? i would rather it be a picture of me or something other than an avatar!! So how do you change the picture into an ACTUAL picture, not an avatar?
