How can I upload this video to imovie?!?

So i have to edit this movie for an english project, and i am using imovie for it. i hav to upload the video from my camera onto imovie. i hav imovie opened and my camera plugged in, but wen i try to import the video from my camera onto imovie it says "plug in a camera to import video" but i hav a camera plugged in!!! how can i fix this?!?!
