How to plug computer into tv?

When I plug it in it is black. Yet when I plug in my friends Sony VPCM11M1E the computer screen appears on the LCD TV straight away. The N130 is still ok, I just cant use it because of the cracked screen. Any Ideas? If the N130 requires some configuration...
