How to prevent an allergic reaction?

I think something I am touching is giving my skin an allergic reaction. It will swell up and sort of burn/itch. What could it be and how should I avoid it. It gets on my face alot, but also my hands and feet.

I will see the doctor tomorrow, but what can i do to temporarily better? And is there a minimum number of days that the reaction gets worse, then it gets better? (cause last two times i saw the allergy specialist...when prescribing me medication hes...
