How do i use a capture card?

I like a lot of people want to record videos for youtube about modern warfare 2 and other games, but some people say that i should use a capture card to get the best quality and not to use a normal video camera. I dont want to buy one on amazon or at best buy until i know how to work it and what other things i need to buy with it and if u need any non-included accesories.
