Random free HD cable in the 100+ channels?

I just bought a new HD tv last week, and all I have is Comcast basic cable. It comes from the wall straight to the tv, no cable box of any kind. I was expecting to get the national network channels in HD, but I'm also receiving over 20 cable channels...

Earlier today I hooked my cable wire up to my Plasma TV without using the cable box (which isn't HD anyway) and without an antenna. A few HD channels came through but not as many as it would be if I used an antenna. How is this possible? 1. I am 100...

if i hook up my hdtv to my cable line i get all my basic cable channels plus a lot of digital channels all in 480p.even the ones that should be in 1080p. though if i unhook my cable line and hook up my digital converter box i get all my local hd channels...
