What are good vacation destinations in August?

I'd like to go on a vacation this summer but don't want to spend a lot of money. What vacation destinations are exciting, yet will keep some money in my wallet?

My boyfriend and I want to plan a romantic getaway (maybe a honeymoon) in the British Virgin Islands. All of the websites I have been to so far don't seem to be legitimate, and I have heard of nightmare scenarios like vacation scams. I don't want that...
