What is really Vitamin E?

I did a science fair project and I tested vitamin E gel on flower petals . Now I have to explain why the petal with Vitamin E spread on it lasted longer . So I was wondering why does Vitamin E keep things fresher longer ?

My doctor says I am allergic to Vitamin E but I see all multivitamans contain vitamin E. Are there any multivitamins which do not contain E?
