What is the difference between a DVD-R &DVD RW (D)?

whats the difference between dvd-rw and dvd+rw i cant seem to get my recorder to accept dvd-rw it says no disc found,recorder is philips dvdr 980

i just wanna know wats d basic difference between DVD-RW and DVD+RW,,,,,i know wat is DVD RW,,, just confused b/w -RW and +RW

I recorded on both DVD+RW and DVD-RW and didn't notice the difference until after I recorded. When I try to play the DVD-RW on any other DVR other than the one I recorded them on, I get an error message? Not sure I guess how these disks differ. Appreciate...

im trying to burn some films and my computers telling me i need a dvd-r/rw, when i go to look for it in the shops the nearest i can find is dvd-rw, is a dvd-r/rw and a dvd-rw the same thing?

Camcorder says it uses DVD-R , DVD-R DL , and DVD-RW. When I went to supermarket to get, they've got DVD+RW on shelf. Is this the same thing? (I've never understood the plus and minus signs in CD's and DVD's.)
