What's the cheapest way to travel to New York From NC?

im looking for the cheapest/ easiest form of travel!

my whole family booked ticketts on the chinese bus co that went out of biz last week. I wonder if any other bus companies seized the opp and started offering service to nc now. Or any trans co that charges less than amtrack. The bus was only $30.

This is for week end travel and not for daily commute.

I'm leaving on sunday and will probably go into the city on tuesday. I want to see the statue of liberty, ground zero, empire state building! I'm staying on the jersey shore. We have a rental car but would prefer not to take it into the city. what's...

Is it better to travel a certain way in this city (taxis, bus etc.) your own car,,, and does it take long to get to places especially in rush hour?
