Why are bees disappearing across America so fast?

This is the first time in my life that I havent seen a single honeybee during the summer. I see wasps, yellow jackets hornets,and bumble bees but I havent seen a single honey bee all summer. I am an avid gardener by the way.

The declining number of bees is worrying, as is the decline of any species. But flies, butterflies and many other insects do a similar job. Won't they just take over from the bees? Also, surely bees will recover from this problem ?
