Why can't I join the group I was invited to?

i have tried to set my membership to close, not let anyone join , but i have the following msg without any edit option.what should i do??? Membership Type: Open (anyone can join)

I would like some info as to what this group is all about.

I was invited to join a group (and I know the person who invited me). But for some reason no matter what I do I can't seem to join the group. I did the whole click on the join group button, and created a profile, but then it just goes to my profile page...

This driving me crazy! I get a page that says my groups but there are none listed. I try to search for the group that has invited me to join and it says that I am denied access because I am not a memeber even though they have invited me to join.
