Why do you enjoy art?

I'm hoping for answers that explore the actual mechanisms and roots, and how this could cause some art to be better than other art. Why and how does it work the way it does?

i ask this question because, as a student of philosophy, i am always amazed to see people enjoying watching horrific movies but hate to see that happening in reality. so, if that is the case, why are we so interested in watching these movies. is it because...

Besides the classic answer: "All of them" : If you had to choose the few  you engage most often: either music, novels, film, 3D art, collaborative, photography or dance? How  and why does it effect and change you?

I want to take some art lessons and not sure which area to concentrate. Ideas would be appreciated.
