Why is my iPod suddenly much louder?

I have a 4gb ipod mini (I know, its sad) so in the ipod summary on itunes it says that i have 1.92 gb of audio, 610.8 mb of free space, and 1.26 gb of other. so what is this 'other' and why is it taking up more than 1/4 of my ipod space?
