Why won't my instant messenger work?

I have vista on my new lap top and I can talk to anyone with instant messege and by calling them but with voice conference in messenger I can not talk or hear them

I have configured my webcam that is icluded with my HP Pavilion dv6-3225dx laptop, yet I can not seem to get it to work with Yahoo Instant Messenger. If there is anything I am missing I would like to get some help on it.

the normal yahoo instant messenger never would let me sign in, but I found an older version I could use, would get to it by www.webmessenger.yahoo.com, but that doesn not pull it up anymore, all my contacts are lost, etc.

I get IM on my pc but when I sign on to Im a msg comes up that there is a problem ( maybe no internet connection) but I have internet working on the laptop.
