Are DVD players that play DivX also AVI players?

So far I've seen regular DVD player that play divx, and new Blu-Ray players that play mp4, but haven't seen one that plays both.

I've heard that those Divx certified players can play DVD's without having to convert AVI files to DVD files (.vob). So if i burn my video files (AVI files) into a DVD data disc, can it be played?

trying to find dvd players that will play Divx. Some are listed on retail boxes as Divx compatible and some are not.. so just looking to make a list of Divx compatible players
