Why wont the sound on my tv work?

Hey.. my TV is about 3 months old Samsung - PS51D550 - 51" plasma 3D TV - 1080p (FullHD) and I've just brought a Panasonic SC-BTT270 5.1 3D Blu-ray Home Cinema System.. basically it works fine when watching a DVD but i cant get it to play sound...

i have a hd tv and a surround sound system. the surround sound only works with dvds. what cord do i need to make it work with watching tv.

My ipod and tv are both on the same system. Both the tv and ipod sound works for a short time, and then there is no sound. Why does this happen?
