Why is my tongue sore?

Okay, so I've noticed that at least maybe six or seven times within this year (never before) I've woke up with two swollen gland things under my tongue. I don't have a picture so I'll describe what they look like. There's two sides and they're just flat...

I have a really sore tongue and cant really stick it out very far. I have my tongue pierced but i had it done about 4 years ago.

Only the left side of my tongue hurts. It's not swollen, or burnt or anything. It's just sore, and gets really sore when I bite a tiny bit on it. WTF is up?

They are no larger than 1/16th on an inch. They are not white or red. They are sore like a zit before it comes to a head but thats where the similarity ends. They go away in a few days or so. And they occur any where on the tongue. What causes them?

Just the past two days the sides of my tongue have been hurting and anytime I drink or eat something is stings n is so sore. But I looked n there's no cuts or sores or anything. What could it be??
